Governor Leroy Collins at The Worlds Luckiest Fishing Village

October 15, 1956 Governor Leroy Collins was passing through Destin. As a photo opportunity, Arturo convinced the Governor to hop into the Miss Kathy captained by his father-in-law Reddin Brunson. They made one pass around the sea buoy and on the way back in Governor Collins caught a fish. A reporter teased the governor with, "That's hard to believe you could head out and return to the dock with a nineteen pound King Mackerel within fifteen minutes." Governor Collins smiled and replied, "Not if you're fishing out of Destin, them boys live with the fish. Destin's the world's luckiest fishing village". The phrase became official. This is a picture of Reddin "Salty" Brunson and Governor Collins.
